Ground Station VELES Firmware 2.4 Released

Firmware 2.4 for the Ground Station VELES introduces multi-operator mode supporting up to 6 simultaneous video feeds, improved spectrum analysis tooling, and critical stability fixes for the signal acquisition subsystem.

Multi-Operator Mode

The most significant addition in 2.4 is the multi-operator mode. Previously, a single VELES unit could display and record one primary and one secondary feed simultaneously. Version 2.4 expands this to 6 independent feeds, each with its own recording buffer and operator control interface.

This capability is particularly relevant for coordinated multi-platform operations where a single command post manages several FPV carriers simultaneously. The interface divides the display into a configurable grid — 2×3, 3×2, or 1 primary + 5 secondary — switchable via hardware buttons without interrupting recording.

Spectrum Analysis

A new spectrum analysis panel provides real-time visibility into the 433MHz, 900MHz, and 2.4GHz bands simultaneously. The waterfall display shows frequency occupancy over a 60-second rolling window, enabling operators to identify jamming patterns and switch to clear channels proactively.

“The waterfall display alone is worth the upgrade. We can now see jamming attempts 8–12 seconds before they affect link quality, which gives us time to switch frequencies before any disruption.”

Installation

Firmware 2.4 is available via the VELES update utility (USB or over-the-air if the unit has network access). The update takes approximately 4 minutes and does not require disassembly. All operator profiles and frequency presets are preserved across the update.
